FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION
Inspired by Mid-Century architecture, this project focuses on the Farnsworth House designed by Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe. Form Follows Function presents a fresh approach to architecture books, which are often seen as text-heavy and lacking in colour. Using duotone imagery and varied text hierarchies, the editorial creates a more engaging reading experience that balances written content with visuals. The publication celebrates the unique qualities of the Farnsworth House, highlighting its open-plan layout, glass walls, and impracticality for full-time living.
Contemporary design choices throughout reinforce these characteristics while exploring the house’s structure and design from exterior to interior. The book’s elongated format reflects the proportions of the house, with fold-out pages and a removable sleeve that unfolds into a poster, extending the reading experience while reinforcing the project’s emphasis on thoughtful, functional design.
